As Mike Newton in Twilight: One of the seven projects he did this year is the upcoming movie version of Twilight. As Mike Newton, he gets to see and talk to Bella and establish a close relationship with our heroine. Both works at Newton’s Outfitters, owned by Mike’s Dad.

I’m also quite sure Mr. Welch will do just fine in his scenes. While he’s not the lead actor, he got his own growing number of fans who simply love him. Says Michael in an interview with the Twilight Lexicon:

“Originally I auditioned for Edward. Ha! As soon as I read the description I knew it wasn’t for me. Although I appreciate my representatives thinking I could pull off, “hauntingly beautiful; the most unbelievably good looking creature the world has ever seen,” honestly, come on.”Yes, he might not be able to act like some preternaturally gorgeous creature, with awesome powers, but as Mike, he’ll be Twilight’s Mr. Popularity.

Fans might be ‘obsessed’ with the Vampire characters, but there are also cool human characters in the books worthy of admiration.

I’m quite sure he’ll be making lots of buzz especially since his role will put him in direct competition with British actor Robert Pattinson. The two characters don’t get along with each other, due to Mike’s closeness to Bella. Sparks will fly definitely!
